At our best, the United States inspires people around the world to reach for freedom and democracy. In the student led rallies in Tiananmen Square, the students built a statue of liberty as one of the centerpieces of their protest.
I remember watching the protests on TV, being thrilled by the power of people to get up and change their society.
AsiaPundit has a very good roundup, “16 years later.” Also, Rebecca MacKinnnon points out in an brief and moving post with excellent links:
Relatives of the dead continue to mourn, and are ostracized and threatened for doing so. Those who think the government should apologize are not free to speak.

Not anymore… these days, the United States shamelessly desecrates Koran, tortures people in Abu Graib, kills by the hundred of thousands in Iraq (as it did earlier in Japan, Vietnam etc.), and conspires with the sionists to evict palestinians from their land. I wonder how worse could the US be?
Thanks for the reference, the link is missing though. http://www.asiapundit.com/2005/06/apologize.html
Oops! Sorry about that! I’ve fixed the post.
