“Never doubt that a small group of concerned citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”
An old but wonderful piece by Sara Vowell has been floating around, on how not to trivialize Parks’ inpired legacy: http://www.time.com/time/sampler/article/0,8599,96988,00.html
Rosa Parks’ declining to give up her seat on the Alabama bus to a white passenger changed many things for the African American population in the United States. A Civil Rights Movement ensued and our history was changed. The one thing I admire about Ms. Parks’ integrity was she didn’t try to gain fame for this act. She simply stated, “I had worked hard standing on my feet all day, and I was just too tired to give up my long awaited opportunity to be seated even though it was in the Whites Only Section of the bus.???
Even though this act was merely prompted by Rosa’s tiredness, it triggered the Civil Rights Movement of the century, however, she never tried to claim glory as a result. She lived a long life and left a great legacy for her family and the entire world to ascribe to. I say thanks to her family for allowing her to share her life with us too.

I don’t like that Rosa got arrested for not giveng up her seat. Thats just stupid.
