Suffering for Art

Joseph Carnevale, 21, was nabbed Wednesday after a Raleigh Police Department investigation determined that he was responsible for the work (seen below) constructed May 31 on a roadway adjacent to North Carolina State University. Carnevale, pictured in the mug shot at right, was charged with misdemeanor larceny for allegedly building his orange monster from materials pilfered from a construction site. According to an arrest warrant, Carnevale “destroyed three road blocking barrels by cutting and screwing them together to form a statue.”

Good Idea: Hiring local artists to make temporary whimsical art at construction sites to naturally calm traffic as drivers slow down for a better look.
Bad Idea: Taking stuff to make whimsical construction site art without permission.
Better Idea: Make this guy do community service by making more of these things for other construction sites.
I want to see this thing at construction sites near me!

While I’m sure that what he did was a crime (you can’t alter someone else’s stuff against their will), what really got him in trouble was to make some government official think he was being mocked.
Bureaucracies don’t have good senses of humor.
