From a presentation perspective, I think Vader’s biggest problem is that he doesn’t outline his message before hand, but tries to rely on the old ‘shocking narrative’. Imagine how much easier it would have been to convert Luke on the first meeting when he was vulnerable if “destroying the Emperor and ruling the galaxy” had been on the table. Yoda, on the other hand, stresses the importance patience and long term goals from the beginning.
