Some Good News from New Orleans
It seems that both the French Quarter may have survived, and Fats Domino definitely has, despite earlier reports he was missing.
It also seems that the National Guard is finally getting food to some people, and evacuating others, although there’s a lot more to do.
Oh, and just when I try to get in a good news post, someone sends me “Brown pushed from last job: Horse group: FEMA chief had to be `asked to resign’.” Does everyone just buy a background check, and not bother to talk to former employers these days?

In terms of employment, the situation is bad in Britain, but I suspect it is worse in the US. I lack the data to do more than speculate … but one doesn’t hear of phoney degrees in Europe whereas they seem fairly routine in the US.
Precisely why is the French Quarter worth saving?
