More on Deep Throat
The Telegraph has a roundup story, “FBI Deep Throat branded a traitor by Nixon aides:”
Charles Colson, Nixon’s chief counsel who served seven months in jail for his role in the Watergate scandal, confessed to understanding the dilemma Mr Felt faced.
But he added: “When any president has to worry whether the deputy director of the FBI is sneaking around in dark corridors peddling information in the middle of the night, he’s in trouble.”
I am, frankly, astounded at the number of people who are condemning Felt. President Nixon, by ordering criminal acts, and then discussing the coverup in the Oval Office, brought shame on himself and his office. When the President needs to worry that the FBI is investigating his actions, the President needs to do exactly what Nixon, in the end, did: resign.
